Hat Yai - finding all the food!
Meanwhile at the Bhava Residence. . .
After breakfast, I decided to go for a walk and see the surrounding area, but first I had to cross over this bridge-- and it turned out that the bridge led directly into the mall - a gigantic mall, mind you --- and since I was walking in that direction anyway, I thought I would just walk through the mall instead of walking on the street.
Back at breakfast. . .

So, I think that I mentioned that the hotel that I was staying at when I first arrived in Hat Yai was pretty swanky. They actually give you a choice of eight different breakfasts when you check in,
and all of the options looked pretty outstanding and creative.
This one was called something like Asian Fried Egg:
I have to say, it was pretty delicious, though definitely an unexpected combination of things. I'm not usually a big fan of this kind of sliced sausage (hot dogs?) in the US, but for some reason, in Malaysia and Thailand I always really enjoy it. I feel like it's less smoky and tastier overall. On this plate, I especially loved the minced pork saute behind the sausage. It was juicy and so well flavored-- lots of aromatics, shallots and garlic, and the eggs were really interestingly cooked in the skillet where the yolk was somewhat cooked but partly not. On the side, the hot dog bun contained what looked like a regular kind of sausage and a very lightly colored one which I suspected might be some kind of fish cake and didn't try. (I should have though!) I also love that they serve Maggi seasoning sauce --- seriously one of the best condiments in my opinion--- along with chili sauce and ketchup.
For a condiment queen like myself, I was like OH YEAH.
The dining area was nice. It felt like being in an actual restaurant, and reminded me of Japan somehow.

I must say that when I'm in the US, I am not a mall person, but there is something about malls in Asia-- they inevitably draw me in!
I'm a cheese lover, but somehow I'm scared of this "foam cheese". Anyone else?
at this point I saw it. . . the huge specialty food court downstairs!
Yamazaki bread is a popular store brand in Japan, but I don't know if I've ever seen an actual Yamazaki bread shop in Japan. But here in Hat Yai. . .
Korean fried chicken calling to me. .
I think these are some kind of sweets containing "golden threads"
made with egg yolk.
I'm reallly curious as to what is in the plastic containers. Is it fruit? Crazy colored heirloom tomatoes? Jellybeans? Or some kind of tanghulu?
I spy donuts!
OMG with all of these delicious looking dips!
Which shape do I get?
I ended up getting the twist shape with the pandan dip (of course)--
though it was a bit of a tough choice!
Finding an amazing food court always rejuvinates me.
What do we get with the "American Fried Rice"?
Fried chicken!
Hat Yai, I feel like you KNOW me!
