Welcome!
I'm starting this new blog after a long thought process of:
-do I restart one of my old blogs?
-if so, which one?
-do I start anew, despite the fact that I already have many blogs?
These questions kept me going in circles for ages, until I finally realized that it's a new day, a new age, and I'd already thought of a new name for a blog:
KELLIBRATION
KELLIBRATION has several meanings.
One, the result of my long deliberation about blogging again:
Kellie + Deliberation
And I also wanted this to be a travel blog, including my recommendations for places to go, but also the random thoughts and ideas that come to me when I travel, but most importantly, how travel always brings me back to myself and how it does that.
Travel is my way of calibrating.
I am a Libra, and though I'm not super into horoscopes, I've always thought that the sign Libra suits me. I'm all about balance. I look at all angles when making decisons, and I always try to be neutral. When I'm not in balance, so many things go wrong. My mental state suffers, my health suffers, and I have a very hard time interacting with human beings, including myself.
Kellie + Calibration
Travel has always been a way for me to get back in balance. You may be thinking, sure, going to tropical islands and living the good life would get anyone back in balance. But, the thing is, as many people have commented about social media posts where people are in beautiful places, travel is not always as flawless and gorgeous as it looks. There are many bumps in the ocean, so to speak, both literally and figuratively. Over the years, I have dealt with a plethora of issues while traveling solo, many inconvenient (cancelled transport, getting stuck in various places, being hassled and overcharged), some dangerous (big boats and little boats in rough waters, sickness in remote places, being stalked and followed), and at times an existential angst that happens especially on small islands (whether it's from being a solo traveler among almost all couples or seeing the negative effects of tourism on the environment or on local cultures and people)--- there are a lot of unoptimal things at times, and they're unavoidable.
All you can do is learn how to take things as they come, both the positive and the negative.
Over time, it becomes something like second nature, and I think that you learn to appreciate both sides of the coin. If everything was always perfect, would you actually be able to enjoy it?
I think that I'm proud of myself for coming to a place where I know that things won't always be easy but the rewards are certainly worth it. And that calls for a celebration.
Kellie + Celebration
